Christmas Decorations

The family spent Saturday morning decorating the front of the house for Christmas. Most of the decoration came from my parents house. The hand me downs come from a toxic combination of my mother love of  festive decorations and my dad's hoarding. Next year we will see even more decorations because they have to make room for new ones.

Red Rock Canyon National Preserve

This last weekend we were in Las Vegas to celebrate the Marine Corps birthday. While we were in the area I took the family to Red Rock Canyon National Preserver just west of Las Vegas. The sandstone has amazing red hues due to iron oxide.
The little one loved all the holes she could climb into.
The big one was watching the little one.
Red Rocks is very popular with climbers. As I was jumping around on rocks I was able to catch this guy trying to send (climber speak for "go up") this climb. I don't know who they were but they were speaking French.

Self portrait

Testing out Pk-Tether with my Pentax K-5. It works really well. Now if Pentax would give us official tether support, I think we'd have a few more Pros going Pentax.

I'm looking at you Pentax.

San Diego Color Run

This weekend was the Color Run in beautiful San Diego, CA. One of the mail reasons that I love events like this is all the fun characters that come out. Not only is it tons of fun but it's also for charity! This week's 5k benefited the Big Brothers Big Sisters charity.

It was so much fun that we are going to do it again in February when it comes to Los Angeles.

Tide Pools

Cabrillo National Monument Tide Pools

The striations in the rock make for a pretty backdrop.
The boy recovering from falling on his butt.
Luckily when the girlfriend is around I always have a model handy.

Pumpkins

Last weekend the girl scouts spent the day at the Underwood Family Farm in Moorpark. It was overcast all day so the light was great.
Spaced bales are impossible to resist.

" What could I hide in here?"

The view from the tractor ride.

 Cutest girls ever.

Cornfused... oh goodness. Though I have to admit, the maze was rather difficult.

At first I thought the little one on the left was flipping me off. Then I realized she just didn't want to get any chalk on her clothing. The chalk was from a game inside of the corn maze.

Bamboo Synapse

Today, while I was walking around trying to find something to eat, I came across this sculpture by Joyce Kohl. I've had to have walked past this dozens of times and not snapped a picture of it.

Ready for bed

Just before bed, the little one let me use her to test out my off camera flash.
This was an accidental shot and came out really well.
This one is perfect for the time of year. Creepy without trying to be.

Space Shuttle Endeavor

Today, I was able to photography the Space Shuttle Endeavor begin it's journey from LAX to the California Science Center. I know most of you weren't able to see it moving down the road. I think I was able to get some decent images but they won't do it justice. Take my word for it, that thing is bigger in real life ;)

I think the boosters are the most impressive part of the shuttle.

 You'll never see this again.
More to come.
